How to Properly Advertise Your Consignment Shop

Bringing In the Customers Through The Age-Old Advertising Methods
You have to get customers into your store and the way that is done in the world of consignment is through advertising. You want to get customers in, and you need to show them why they need to buy their second-hand items from you. Effective advertising can make a business and propel its profits into areas that it never thought possible. With one good advertising campaign, you can make your entire fiscal year.

Size Doesn't Always Matter
Commonly, new business owners will go for big ads rather than small ads. They think bigger is better, but that is not always the case. Sometimes, consistency is more important. For example, if you spend $1,000 on a full page ad, you get that ad for about one week in most local papers. After that week, your ad is gone and customers may not remember you. However, if you buy 10 ads for $100 that only take up 1/8th of a page, you don't get as much initial exposure, but you get 10 weeks of advertising. That helps to create brand awareness for your consignment shop. As well, many advertisers offer discounts based on bulk orders than if you buy one large ad.

Advertising Doesn't Have To Be Expensive
When you advertise your consignment shop, you don't have to break the bank. There are many methods to advertising yourself that will work well and be cost effective. Here are just a few methods you can try:

1. Talk to everyone you know and let them know that you have your own consignment shop and that they should stop by for a visit. Send out e-mails to friends and family to get them to come out and let others know. This can help to create word-of-mouth advertising, which is gold in the marketing world.

2. If your neighborhood has a newsletter, think about advertising in it or having a story done on your business in it. Likewise, make sure you send a press release that is newsworthy to the editor of a local paper. Free advertising with press releases is very effective.

3. Wherever you can think of putting up a poster, do it. Flyers can be put on community boards, lamp posts and more. You want to get your company out to as many people as possible.

4. Put yourself in the Yellow Pages under consignment stores. When someone wants to sell their second-hand goods, they are going to look for a consignment shop. If you are in the Yellow Pages, you have helped to possibly bring in another consignor, which can turn into another customer.

5. Don't just limit your advertising to asking people to come into your business to buy things. Entice them by offering sales and discounts if they come in. Having coupons they can click can be very effective and cheap. One coupon for one item can bring in a customer who will buy five items from you in a single visit.

6. Have a mailing list for customers who come into your store. If you have a computer at the till, have your cashiers ask customers for their e-mail address or physical address. Then, each month send out a newsletter or flyer that mentions upcoming items coming in, sales and more. You want to entice people to come in and you can do that with something like a mailing list. It is also a free form of advertising minus the cost of mailing and printing the postcards or flyers you send out.

Effective marketing can make or break a business. Your consignment store needs customers and you need to bring those customers in. Advertising works because it entices people to buy things they may not have thought of. Every successful company on Earth advertises in one way or another, and your consignment store should as well. One ad can bring in hundreds of customers and increase your sales exponentially.
